Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the USCIS civics test
What is the USCIS civics test?
The USCIS civics test is part of the U.S. naturalization (citizenship) interview. The officer asks civics questions in English about U.S. government, history, and rights. There are two versions in active use: the 2008 test (100-question pool, 10 asked, 6 to pass) and the 2025 test (128-question pool, 20 asked, 12 to pass).
Do I take the 2008 or 2025 version?
It depends on when you filed Form N-400. Applicants who filed before October 20, 2025 take the 2008 version. Applicants who file on or after October 20, 2025 take the 2025 version. Easy Civics Test™ supports both versions, so just pick the one that matches your filing date.
What languages are supported?
We use the USCIS official translations for English, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese. The interview itself is in English (unless you qualify for a language exception), but bilingual study helps you understand the meaning of every question, not just memorize sounds.
How much does it cost?
$9.99 once. There is no subscription. You also get a 7-day no-questions-asked refund. The free tier gives you the first 5 questions per category and 1 free mock exam so you can verify the experience before paying.
What is the 65/20 exemption?
If you are 65 or older AND have been a lawful permanent resident for at least 20 years, USCIS asks you only from a smaller starred subset of questions and you may take the test in your native language. Easy Civics Test™ has a dedicated 65/20 study mode for exactly this group.
What is the passing score?
On the 2008 test, you must answer at least 6 of 10 questions correctly. On the 2025 test, you must answer at least 12 of 20 correctly. The interview ends as soon as you have either passed or can no longer pass — our mock exam follows the same rule.
